Okay, so I’ve been meaning to share this for a while now, and I finally got around to sorting it all out. I wanted to get the full roster for the Italian men’s volleyball team. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, it took some digging, I tell ya.

First off, I hit up the usual spots, you know, the official sports websites and all that jazz. I figured they’d have the most up-to-date info. Turns out, finding a complete, current list is trickier than you’d think! I found bits and pieces here and there, some articles talking about the 2024 lineup, some older stuff from the World Championship. It was a real mixed bag.
I started jotting down names as I found them. Like, I saw a mention of the coach, Ferdinando De Giorgi, and how he announced a big list of 30 players. Then, another article talked about this second round of call-ups for a training camp. So, I was like, “Okay, we’re getting somewhere.” I even found a list of as many as 13 of the 14 athletes who were the main players of Italy in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship last year.
But it still wasn’t the full picture. So, I started digging deeper, checking out fan forums, Italian sports news sites. You wouldn’t believe how many different versions of the roster are floating around out there! I even found a database of players from Italy! This database has 9444 men volleyball players!
Eventually, I managed to piece together a pretty solid list. Here’s what I’ve got so far, broken down by position:
- Setters: This was a tough one, but I’m pretty sure about Marco Falaschi, Paolo Porro, Riccardo Sbertoli, and Simone Giannelli being in the mix.
- Opposites: This was a bit easier. I found Giulio Pinali, Ivan Zaytsev, and Tommaso Stefani.
I’m still working on confirming the rest of the positions, like the middle blockers, outside hitters, and liberos. It’s like putting together a puzzle, but I’m determined to get it right. And this is just for the men’s national team. I found also some information for women’s team, for example, that they will debut in Ottawa. Also, that in the first week the European champion Italy Men will be engaged in Ankara, Turkey from May 31 to June 5.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my progress. It’s been a fun little project, and I’m learning a lot about the team in the process. I’ll keep you all updated as I confirm more names. It’s a bit of a mess right now, but hey, that’s the fun of research, right?

Oh, and if any of you happen to have some insider info, feel free to drop it in the comments! Every little bit helps.
Stay tuned for more updates, folks!
