Okay, so I stumbled upon this idea for a “bouncy beach volleyball card game” and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, I love a good DIY project, and this sounded like a fun challenge.

First, I grabbed some card stock. You know, the thicker paper that feels nice and sturdy. I didn’t want flimsy cards that would bend after a few plays. I figured a standard playing card size would work best, so I used one of my regular cards for size.
I cut up a bunch, eyeballing the size mostly. Who needs perfect when you’re having fun, right? They are a litte different size, and I like that.
Brainstorm the Rules
Next, I sat down and tried to figure out how this game would actually work. I knew I wanted it to be simple, something you could pick up quickly, but still have some strategy. Bouncy, so let make game play rules.
- 1. Need two player.
- * all card and deal 5 card each.
- 3. Rock, Paper, Scissors, who win who first.
- 4. turn by turn, put card on table, and the bigger win, so the win card can get back, and the lose card need throw to trash.
- 5. Who no card on hand, who lose.
Then drew some quick sketches – stick figures, mostly – of volleyball players. I even tried to give them different poses, like one spiking the ball, another diving for a save. Some card set it as bump, set as set, and some card set as spike.
I write the card type under the picture, and give it 1,2,3,4,5 point to each one.

After I drew all picture and text on the card, I played a few test games with my roommate. It was… interesting. We had to tweak the rules a bit as we went, like how many cards to start with and who take the first turn.
It’s definitely a work in progress, but hey, that’s part of the fun! I’m thinking of adding some “special ability” cards next, maybe one that lets you block a spike or something. Who knows where this will go, but I’m enjoying the ride!
