Alright, so, today I wanna talk about something that’s been on my mind lately: high school football. Specifically, the BHS football team. I’ve been following them for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been a ride.
It all started a couple of years ago when my nephew joined the team. I figured, “Hey, why not go to a few games? Support the kid, you know?” Little did I know, I was stepping into a whole different world. I started going to their practices, too. Just to watch, at first.
Getting Involved
Then, one day, the coach, a real tough guy named Coach Miller, saw me watching. He came over and we started chatting. Turns out, they were short on volunteers. Before I knew it, I was helping out with the water, carrying equipment, and basically doing whatever needed to be done. I even learned all the players names and positions.
- First, helped with carrying water and equipment.
- Then, started learning player’s names and positions.
- Eventually, got involved in setting up drills during practices.
Becoming Part of the Team
I won’t lie, it was tough at first. These kids are intense, and the practices are grueling. But I stuck with it. I started to understand the game better, the strategies, the plays. I even picked up some of the lingo. “Sweep right,” “hail mary,” “red zone” – it all started to make sense.
The best part, though, was seeing these kids grow. Not just as players, but as people. They learned teamwork, discipline, and how to push themselves beyond their limits. And I got to be a part of that. I watched them win some tough games and lose some heartbreakers. But through it all, they kept their heads up and kept fighting.
More Than Just a Game
Now, I’m pretty much a fixture at the games and practices. I help set up drills, keep track of stats, and even give the occasional pep talk. It’s become more than just something I do; it’s become a part of who I am. It is rewarding, ya know?
So yeah, that’s my BHS football story. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real. And it’s taught me a lot about the game, about these kids, and about myself. I never thought I’d be so involved in high school football, but here I am. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I realized that this is what I love, helping those kids to achieve their goals.
