Okay, so I wanted to spice up our volleyball practice for the newbies. I mean, the usual drills are fine, but they can get boring, you know? So, I decided to try out some fun warm-up games.

Getting Started
First, I gathered everyone in a circle. I explained that we were gonna ditch the usual routine for a bit and try something different. Everyone seemed pretty stoked about that!
The Games
- Volleyball Keep-Up:
I started with a simple one. The goal? See how long we could keep the ball in the air using only volleyball moves – bumps, sets, even the occasional (accidental!) spike. We counted our passes out loud. It got pretty competitive, with everyone diving and scrambling. It was a great way to get everyone moving and working on those basic skills without it feeling like a “drill.”
- Target Practice:
Next up, I set up some cones as targets on the other side of the net. Then We split into teams, the first one get 5 balls to the pointed area win! it’s simple, and fun.
- “King/Queen of the Court” Warm-up:
We also play one round of “King/Queen of the Court” Warm-up, The constant movement really got the blood flowing, and having to quickly decide whether to bump or set added a nice mental challenge.
The Result
By the end, everyone was laughing, sweating, and definitely warmed up. It was way more engaging than our usual routine. Plus, it was awesome to see the beginners get comfortable with the ball and start to get a feel for the game. I think it also helped build some team camaraderie. Mission accomplished!
I’m definitely going to keep incorporating these games into our warm-ups, the team love these games.
