Okay, so I’ve been trying to spice up my volleyball practices lately. Just doing the same old drills was getting kinda stale, for me and the team. So, I went on a mission to find some fun, engaging training games. Here’s what I did and how it went:

My Search and Discovery
First, I hit the internet, you know, the usual spots. I typed in stuff like “best volleyball training games,” “fun volleyball drills,” and “competitive volleyball games.” I found a bunch of articles and videos, some good, some… not so much.
Choosing the Games
I wanted games that were, first and foremost, fun. But, they also needed to actually improve our skills. I picked out a few that focused on different things:
- Serving: Accuracy and consistency.
- Passing: Platform control and communication.
- Setting: Hand positioning and decision-making.
- Hitting: Approach, timing, and shot selection.
- Blocking:Reading the hitter and positioning.
I looked for games that would keep everyone moving and engaged, not just standing around. Competition is great, but I also wanted some cooperative stuff to build team chemistry.
Putting them into Practice
At our next practice, I introduced the games. I explained the rules, demonstrated how to play, and then we just… went for it. We played one Game, where you have to score and get off the court as fast as possible.
The Results and Tweaks
Honestly, it was awesome. The energy was way up compared to our usual drills. People were laughing, diving for balls, and really getting into it.
Of course, not everything was perfect. Some games were a little confusing at first, so I had to stop and re-explain a few things. I also realized that some games were better suited for certain skill levels, so I made a mental note to group players accordingly next time.

And the best part? The improvement! Because We played, the team started to do things right.
Overall, it was a big win. I’m definitely going to keep using these games, and I’m already planning to try out some new ones next week. It’s all about keeping things fresh and making sure everyone is having fun while getting better. That’s the goal, right?
