Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this idea of “hallway entertainment” – basically, spicing up that boring stretch of wall between rooms. It all started when I got tired of looking at the same old blank space every day.

First, I brainstormed. I mean, really brainstormed. I spent a good hour just staring at the hallway, trying to picture what could go there. I had some truly awful ideas at first, like a wall of inspirational quotes (cringe) and a giant world map (too cliché). I even thought about a full-blown mural, but my artistic skills are… let’s just say “limited.”
Then, it hit me: keep it simple and interactive. I started thinking about things people could actually do while walking down the hallway, not just look at.
So, step one was clearing the space. This was surprisingly therapeutic. I took down some old, dusty pictures that nobody even looked at anymore and patched up the holes in the wall. Getting that blank canvas ready really helped me focus.
Next, I decided on a magnetic chalkboard wall. I found some magnetic chalkboard paint online – who knew that was even a thing? It took a few coats (and a couple of near-disasters with spilled paint), but I managed to get a decent-sized rectangle painted onto one side of the hallway.
- Tip 1: Use painter’s tape! I learned this the hard way.
- Tip 2: Thin coats are better than thick ones. Trust me on this.
- Tip 3: Don’t wear your favorite shirt while doing this.
Once the paint was dry (which took forever), I added some fun stuff. I got a bunch of colorful chalk, some magnetic letters, and even a few small magnetic whiteboards for quick notes and doodles.
The family use it for all of the sort of things.

I also added a small shelf underneath the chalkboard. This was just a simple piece of wood I found at the hardware store. I painted it a bright color to make it pop and used some basic brackets to mount it to the wall. It’s the perfect spot for holding extra chalk, erasers, and even a few small toys to keep the little ones entertained.
The final touch was adding some lighting. I didn’t want anything too harsh, so I opted for some battery-powered LED strip lights that I stuck along the top edge of the chalkboard. They give off a nice, soft glow that makes the whole thing feel more * have some pretty nifty different settings. You can change the colors, and the brightness. I went with a nice cool blue.
The Result
Honestly, it’s been a huge hit! The kids love leaving messages for each other, and it’s become a fun little gathering spot. It’s amazing how much a simple change can transform a boring hallway into something people actually enjoy. The hallway is now a cool place where the kids can play games, and express themselves. And it’s way more interesting than staring at a blank wall!
So, the next time that you walk down your boring old hallway, think about some of the fun things that you can do to make it a cool, interactive place for you, and your family.
