Well, let me tell ya, gettin’ off your backside and movin’ around is good for ya. That’s what they all say, anyhow. Ain’t gotta be fancy, just gotta do somethin’. My old bones ain’t what they used to be, but I still try to keep movin’.

Sports and activity, they call it. Back in my day, we just called it playin’ or workin’. But I reckon it’s all the same thing. Keeps ya from gettin’ stiff as a board.
Movin’ Your Body
That swimmin’ thing, they say it’s good for the whole body. Like a fish, I suppose. I ain’t never been much for water, but I seen folks doin’ it. Looks like a lot of splashin’ to me.
Then there’s that runnin’. Lordy, I used to run like the wind when I was a girl. Now, I mostly just shuffle along. But them young folks, they sure can run. Keeps their hearts tickin’ good, I reckon.
- Runnin’ – good for the ticker, they say.
- Swimmin’ – like bein’ a fish, all wet and such.
- That bikin’ thing – two wheels, go round and round.
That bikin’, that’s another one. See them folks ridin’ around on them two-wheeled contraptions. Looks like they’re havin’ fun, ‘cept when they fall off. Then it ain’t so fun.
Sports for Everyone
They got all kinds of sports nowadays. Ball games, mostly. Throwin’ a ball, kickin’ a ball, hittin’ a ball. Seems like everyone’s always chasin’ a ball around.
Tennis, that’s a fancy one. Lots of runnin’ back and forth, hittin’ that little ball over a net. Keeps ya on your toes, I guess. Seems like a lot of work for a little ball, if you ask me.

That one with the big ball, and the hoop. Basketball, they call it. Lots of jumpin’ and throwin’. Them folks are tall, too. Must be all that reachin’ up.
- Tennis – hittin’ a little ball, lots of runnin’.
- Basketball – jumpin’ and throwin’, gotta be tall.
- Soccer – kickin’ a ball around, no hands.
And then there’s that one where they kick the ball. Soccer, I think it’s called. Can’t use your hands, just your feet. Looks tricky to me. I’d probably just trip over the ball.
Just Get Movin’
I seen some folks the other day, they were rollin’ around on the sidewalk, wearin’ shoes with wheels. Rollerbladin’, or somethin’ like that. Looked kinda fun, but I wouldn’t try it. I’d probably break a hip.
But the point is, it don’t matter what ya do, just do somethin’. Physical activity is good for ya, keeps the blood flowin’ and the joints loose. Don’t have to be fancy, just gotta move.
Walkin’ is good. Just put one foot in front of the other. Don’t need no special clothes or nothin’. Just walk around the block, or down the road. Good for the body, good for the mind.
Gardening’s good too. Digging in the dirt, it’s exercise and also make some food. Plus, you get to be outside, feel the sun on your face. That’s good for the soul.

Dancin’ is another one. Don’t need no partner, just turn on the radio and move around. Nobody’s watchin’, just have fun. It’s good for the heart, and it’s good for the spirit.

- Gardenin’ – dig in the dirt, get some sunshine.
- Dancin’ – move around, have some fun.
Stayin’ Active is Important
So, there ya have it. Sports and activity, it’s all about movin’. Don’t matter if you’re young or old, big or small. Just find somethin’ you like to do, and do it.
Keeps ya healthy, keeps ya happy. That’s what they all say, anyhow. And I reckon they’re right. My old bones might ache a bit, but I’m still kickin’. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it?
So, get up off that couch, turn off that TV, and go do somethin’. Your body will thank ya for it. And who knows, you might even have some fun.
The best sports are the ones you like doin. Don’t matter what other folks are doin, just find what makes ya happy. And don’t be afraid to try new things. You might surprise yourself.
Just remember to be careful, don’t want to hurt yourself. Listen to your body, and don’t push it too hard. Especially if you’re old like me. But even a little bit of movement is better than nothin’.

So go on, get movin’. Do some activities. It is not hard to do some exercise, even for old people like me. You’ll feel better for it, I guarantee ya. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it? Feelin’ good, and stayin’ healthy. That’s the secret to a long life, I reckon. And a little bit of sunshine don’t hurt either.
