Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get back into some classic games lately, and beach volleyball has always been a favorite. I remember playing it tons as a kid. So, I decided to see if there was a decent version for the PS5. I hopped on the PlayStation Store and did a quick search for “summer games beach volleyball ps5”.

Found something called “Summer Games Beach Volleyball”. Figured, “Why not?” and downloaded it. It wasn’t super expensive, which was a plus.
Getting Started
First thing I did was jump into the tutorial. Gotta get the hang of the controls, you know? It’s pretty straightforward – serving, bumping, setting, spiking. The timing takes a little getting used to, especially for blocking. I spent a good chunk of time just practicing the basics.
Playing Some Matches
After I felt somewhat comfortable, I started a quick match. Picked a team – went with the USA, naturally – and chose a difficulty level. Started on easy, just to get a feel for the gameplay.
The first few matches were a bit rough. My AI partner was… well, let’s just say they weren’t always the most helpful. Lost a couple of games before I started to get the rhythm down. The key, I found, was really focusing on positioning and timing those spikes.
Improving My Game
- Serving: I started experimenting with different serve types. The jump serve is definitely the most powerful, but it’s also the easiest to mess up.
- Setting: I realized that getting a good set is crucial. If the set is off, the spike is almost always going to be weak.
- Spiking: Aiming the spike is important! You can try to hit it down the line, or go for a cross-court shot.
- Blocking: This is still the hardest part for me. Timing the jump is tricky, and it’s easy to get faked out by the opponent.
I played a few more matches, gradually increasing the difficulty. Won some, lost some. It’s definitely a game that requires practice. You’re not going to be a pro right away.
Overall Impression
Honestly, it’s a fun game. It’s not going to blow you away with amazing graphics or anything, but it’s a solid way to kill some time and relive some of that classic beach volleyball fun. It’s simple enough to pick up, but there’s enough depth to keep you engaged. It’s exactly what you want from those classic games.
