So, I decided it was time to get my little ones into basketball. They are full of energy, and I thought a basketball hoop would be a great way to channel that energy and keep them active.

First, I started looking around online. I checked out a bunch of different options. I read some reviews about portable ones, like the “Silverback NXT,” that seemed pretty good. The reviews said it was the best portable one. Also, I saw this “Little Tikes Easy Score Basketball Set” that was mentioned as having a sturdy base. I figured it’d be a decent choice since it was made specifically for kids.
Figuring Out the Right Height
Next, I had to figure out the right height. I found some info saying that 6 ft. is good for kids aged 5 to 7, 8 ft. for 8 to 9-year-olds, 9 ft. for 10 to 11, and regulation height (10 ft.) for 12 and up. Since my kids are 6 and 8, I decided I needed to get two hoops then, or one that could adjust from at least 6 ft to 8ft.
Choosing the Backboard Size
Then there’s the backboard size. Apparently, they range from 44″ to 72″. Since I only have a one-car driveway, I thought a 54″ backboard would be best. If I had more space, I would have considered a 60″ or even a 72″ one, which is the regulation size for high school.
Setting It Up
Once I finally got the hoop, setting it up was the next challenge. I got a portable one so I picked a good spot in the driveway and then just followed the instructions, and it was actually easier than I expected.
Watching Them Play
Now, watching my kids play is the best part. They love it! They spend hours out there, shooting hoops and having fun. It’s great to see them getting exercise and enjoying themselves. Plus, it gives me a little break sometimes!
