Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “bases sports” idea for a while, and I figured I’d share my little journey. It all started with a simple question: how can I track some basic stats for my local softball league? You know, just for fun, not anything super serious.

First, I grabbed a notebook and pen – yeah, old school, I know. I started jotting down the games, who played, and the basic stuff: hits, runs, outs. It was pretty messy, to be honest. Pages full of scribbles and crossed-out numbers. It worked, kinda, but it was a pain to actually use the data.
Then, I thought, “Hey, I should probably use a spreadsheet for this.” So I fired up my computer and opened a new spreadsheet. This was way better. I could make columns for everything: player names, at-bats, hits, RBIs, all that good stuff. I even learned how to do some simple formulas to calculate batting averages and stuff. Felt pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie.
- Column 1: Player Name
- Column 2: At-Bats
- Column 3: Hits
- Column 4: Runs
- And so on…
But then, I wanted to get a little fancier. I started playing around with different ways to visualize the data. You know, charts and graphs. It’s one thing to see the numbers, but it’s another to actually see who’s leading the league in home runs in a nice, pretty bar graph.
The spreadsheet program had some built-in charting tools, so I spent a good few hours just clicking around and experimenting. It was a lot of trial and error, figuring out which chart types made the most sense for the data I had. Some of them looked terrible, some were okay, and a few actually looked pretty good!
My Key Learn
The biggest thing I realized is that even something as simple as tracking softball stats can be a whole process. From messy notebooks to colorful charts, it’s all about finding what works best for you and what helps you understand the information * don’t forget that the most important part is having good record.
