You know what? These days, folks talkin’ ’bout them top sports all the time. My grandbaby, he’s glued to that there TV watchin’ ’em. Me? I don’t know much, but I hear things.
They say that soccer, or football, whatever they call it, is a big one. Lots of folks runnin’ around, kickin’ that ball. Seems like the whole world watches that one. It is one of the top sports around here.
- Soccer, or football, that’s a popular one.
- Basketball, with the hoop and all.
- Baseball, they hit the ball with a stick.
Now, in America, they got their own kinda football. American football they call that one. Not like the other football. This one, they got them helmets and pads and all. Rough lookin’ sport, that one is. They like their baseball, too. My neighbor’s boy used to play that. Always out there swingin’ that bat. American people love these top sports.
I seen on the TV, they got all kinds of these games. Some I ain’t never even heard of. Like that one where they got the bows and arrows. And another one where they poke each other with them skinny swords. Fancy stuff. But not for me. I just know these are some top sports.
Back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy sports. We just played outside. Runnin’ around, climbin’ trees. That was our sport, I reckon. But them top sports today are fun to watch.
Some of these games, they got lots of people playin’ at once. Like that football, or soccer, whichever one. And that basketball, too. Lots of runnin’ and jumpin’. Gets me tired just watchin’ it, I tell ya. I like watching these top sports.

Then there’s them other ones, where it’s just one person doin’ their thing. Like shootin’ them arrows, or that sword fightin’. Don’t seem as fun to me, but I guess some folks like it. I guess that they are also called top sports.
My grandbaby, he tries to explain all the rules to me. But it’s all a jumble in my head. Too many rules, too many people, too much goin’ on. But I like seein’ him so excited about them top sports, I guess it’s a good thing.
They say there’s hundreds of these sports. More than I can count, that’s for sure. Some of ’em are just plain strange. Like that one where they roll a big ball down a lane and try to knock over them pins. What do they call that? Bowling? Sounds silly to me. But, hey, if it makes folks happy, who am I to judge? It is a top sports maybe.
These days every kind of top sports has its own way to play. Many people are playing them all around the world, like football, basketball, baseball. So many people like playing them. Many people get together playing and watching them. They must have fun.

I remember one time, my neighbor, she tried to get me to watch one of them golf games on TV. A bunch of folks walkin’ around a big field, hittin’ a little ball with a stick. I fell asleep right there on the couch! Not very excitin’, that one. But some folks like it, I suppose. Some folks call it top sports but I do not know why.
Now, they got all these fancy shoes and clothes for these sports, too. My grandbaby, he’s got a whole closet full of ’em. Different shoes for every game. And shirts with numbers on ’em. Back in my day, we just wore our regular clothes. Didn’t need no fancy stuff to play. But things are different now, I guess. But it is still about them top sports.
Sometimes they have big events about those top sports, they call it Olympics or something like that. People from all over the world come together, playing those games. That must be something to see.
Well, I may not understand all these top sports, but I know they’re important to a lot of folks. And if it makes ’em happy, then that’s all that matters. Just like my grandbaby, with his big smile when he’s watchin’ his games. That’s enough for me. And maybe I’ll try to watch a little more with him. Might learn somethin’ new, you never know.
