Okay, so today I decided to get into volleyball, you know, just to try something new. I’ve never really played before, so it was a bit of a learning curve, let me tell you!

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a place to play. I looked up some local parks and community centers that have volleyball courts. I found one not too far from my place, so I grabbed a ball and headed over.
The Awkward Beginning
When I got there, there were a few people already playing. I felt a little intimidated, but I walked up and asked if I could join. They were super nice and welcomed me in. They showed me the basics – how to serve, bump, and set. It was…rough. I missed the ball more times than I hit it, and my serves usually ended up in the net or way out of bounds.
Practice Makes…Slightly Better
- Serving: At first, I couldn’t even get the ball over the net consistently. I kept trying different techniques, and after a while, I started to get the hang of it. My serves still weren’t great, but at least they were going in the right direction!
- Bumping: This was probably the easiest for me to pick up. I focused on getting my forearms in the right position and keeping my platform steady. It still felt a little awkward, but I managed to pass the ball to my teammates a few times.
- Setting: This was by far the hardest. Trying to get my hands in the right position and push the ball up in the air without “carrying” it was a real challenge. I definitely need more practice with this one.
The guys who played with me helped me to practice more, and taught me a lot.
Small Victories
Even though I wasn’t very good, I still had a lot of fun. There were a few moments where I actually managed to make a decent play, and it felt awesome! I even got a couple of points for my team, which was a huge confidence boost.
Wrapping Up
By the end of the day, I was exhausted, but in a good way. I definitely got a good workout, and I learned a lot about volleyball. It’s a lot harder than it looks, but it’s also really rewarding. I’m definitely going to keep practicing and try to get better. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll even be able to join a league!
