Okay, so you wanna get into volleyball? Awesome! It’s a super fun sport, and I recently decided to give it a shot myself. Here’s how I got started, and hopefully, it can help you too!

First things first: Finding people to play with
I didn’t know anyone who played, so my first step was trying to find some folks.
- I checked out local community centers. They often have adult sports leagues or drop-in sessions.
- I also looked online for any volleyball groups in my area. Turns out, there were a few!
- I even ask around to find someone to play with.
Getting the basic gear(Not much!)
Volleyball thankfully doesn’t require a ton of stuff.
- Grabbed some comfortable athletic clothes. Nothing fancy, just stuff I could move around in easily.
- Made sure I had decent sneakers. Didn’t want to be slipping all over the place.
- (Optional)Kneepads,protect my knees.
Learning the very basics
Before hitting the court, I watched some videos online, just to grasp the fundamental skills:
- Serving: Figured out the basic overhand serve. It’s not pretty, but it gets the ball over the net (most of the time!).
- Passing(Bumping): Practiced the forearm pass. The key is to use your forearms, not your hands, and get your body behind the ball.
- Setting:This one’s trickier. It’s about using your fingertips to get the ball high and soft for a teammate to spike. Still working on this!
- Hitting(Spiking):Haven’t really gotten to this yet, but it looks like the coolest part!
My first time playing
Okay, so I finally found a “beginners” group and showed up. I was nervous, but everyone was super welcoming.
- We started with some simple drills, just passing the ball back and forth.
- Then we tried some serving * of missed serves, but hey, that’s how you learn!
- We even attempted a very, very basic * was messy, chaotic, and hilarious.
Imade mistake,I missed the ball ,Ifell down, but I got up and tried again.

Keeping at it
I’m definitely no pro, but I’m having a blast! My tips for anyone starting out:
- Don’t be afraid to look silly. Everyone starts somewhere.
- Focus on having fun. It’s a game, after all!
- Keep practicing. The more you play, the better you’ll get.
So yeah, that’s my volleyball journey so far. It’s been a lot of fun, and I’m excited to keep playing and improving. If you’re thinking about trying it, just go for it!
