Okay, so the other day, I was watching a volleyball game with my buddy, and he asked, “Hey, how many sets do they usually play in these things?” I realized I wasn’t 100% sure, so I figured it was time for a little digging. Here’s what I did:

Looked it Up
First things first, I grabbed my phone and opened up my browser. I simply typed in “how many sets in a volleyball game”.
Sorted Through the Results
I got a bunch of results, but I wanted something official-sounding. I looked specifically to the offical rules.
Read and confirmed
I found the answer pretty quick:
- Most volleyball matches are played in a best-of-five sets format.
- That means the first team to win three sets wins the match.
- The first four sets go to 25 points, but you gotta win by two.
- If it goes to a fifth set, that’s only played to 15 points, and again, you need a two-point lead to win.
Sharing the Info
So, I turned to my friend and explained all this. It was also nice to record it to my blog. He was like, “Cool, makes sense!” We went back to watching the game, and I felt good knowing I had the answer straight.
Basically, most matches are best-of-five, but you might see some variations depending on the league or * is all fun.
