Okay, so the other day I was watching a college volleyball game with a friend, and they asked, “Hey, how many sets are actually in one of these games?” I realized I wasn’t 100% sure myself, so I figured, why not do a little digging and find out for sure? I’m all about learning random stuff, so let’s do it!

First, I grabbed my phone and started searching. Just a simple “how many sets in college volleyball” did the trick. I quickly learned the basic answer to that question!
The Basic Answer
- Most college volleyball games are “best-of-five” sets.
- The first team to win three sets wins the match.
Then,I dove into the details. To really understand, I looked at a few different websites and articles.
Digging Deeper
I found out there’s a bit more to it than just playing five sets, however. There are some specifics I found too!
-
First Four Sets:
Usually, the first four sets go to 25 points. But here’s the kicker – a team has to win by at least two points. So, it could go to 26-24, or even longer if it’s super close!
-
Fifth Set (if needed):
If the teams are tied at two sets apiece, they play a fifth, deciding set. This one’s shorter – it only goes to 15 points, but still with that two-point win margin.
So, there you have it! That’s my little journey into figuring out the whole “how many sets” thing in college volleyball. I feel pretty good about knowing the rules now, and I hope this helped you.
