Okay, so the other day, I was trying to explain volleyball scoring to my friend, and I realized I wasn’t 100% sure about all the details. “How many points actually wins a volleyball game?” I thought. So, I decided to do a little digging and, more importantly, play a few games to really get it straight.

Figuring Out the Basics
First, I looked up the basic rules. Most games, I found, are played to 25 points. But here’s the catch – you gotta win by two points. That means if the score is 24-24, you keep playing until one team has a two-point lead.
Putting it to the Test
Knowing the rules is one thing, but I wanted to feel it. So, I grabbed some friends and we headed to the court. We decided to play a few casual games, just to get a sense of how the scoring plays out in real life.
- Our first game was pretty straightforward. One team dominated early on and won 25-18. No drama there.
- The second game, though, that was a nail-biter! We went back and forth, back and forth. The score hit 24-24, and the tension was real. We played several more points, both teams fighting hard, until finally, one team pulled ahead and won 27-25. That two-point rule really makes a difference!
- The third match become more intense. The score even reached 28-28. We keep playing until one team won 30-28.
What I Learned
After playing those games (and sweating a lot!), I have a much better understanding of volleyball scoring. It’s not just about hitting 25; it’s about that two-point lead. And let me tell you, those extra points can be intense! It makes the game way more exciting, and every point feels super important.
The fifth set, if you have the best of five sets, is usually the first 15 points, with the same win-by-two rule.
So, now I can confidently tell my friend (and anyone else) how many points wins a volleyball game. It’s 25, but with that crucial two-point cushion! And believe me, experiencing it firsthand makes all the difference.
