Okay, so the other day, I was watching a volleyball game with my friend, and we got into this whole debate about how long a typical game actually is. I mean, sometimes it feels like they’re over in a flash, and other times, it’s like they’re gonna be playing forever! So, I decided to do some digging and figure this thing out once and for all.

My Little Research Project
First, I jumped online, just to get a general idea. I found some basic info that said most indoor volleyball games last somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes. That seemed like a pretty wide range, so I knew I needed to get more specific.
I realized a big factor is how many sets they play. Like, if it’s a “best of three” match, that’s obviously going to be shorter than a “best of five.” Makes sense, right? The online stuff I found confirmed this, saying best-of-three matches usually wrap up in around an hour, while best-of-five can drag on close to two hours.
Putting It to the Test (Sort Of)
Now, I’m no professional volleyball player, but I do play with some friends sometimes. So, I started paying more attention to how long our games were lasting. We usually play best-of-three, just for fun. And you know what? They do tend to be around that hour mark, give or take. Sometimes a little shorter if one team is just totally dominating, sometimes a bit longer if it’s a real nail-biter!
I even remembered one time we tried playing a best-of-five, just to see how it would go. Man, that was a long game! We were all exhausted by the end. It definitely went over the 90-minute mark, maybe even closer to two hours. It felt much longer.
- Best-of-three matches: Usually around 60 minutes.
- Best-of-five matches: Can easily go for 90 minutes to 2 hours.
Beach Volleyball: A Whole Different Ball Game
And then there’s beach volleyball. I have watched the game on the beach. I checked that out too, and it turns out those games are generally shorter, mostly because of the different, I think. Something like 45 minutes on average.
So, yeah, that’s what I figured out about volleyball game lengths. It’s not an exact science, but at least now I have a much better idea of what to expect! No more wondering if I’ll be stuck at a game all day or if it will be finish soon.
