Okay, so the other day I was trying to figure out how long a volleyball game usually lasts. I had a few friends coming over to watch a match, and I needed to plan the snacks and drinks accordingly, you know, be a good host.

My Research Process
First, I jumped onto the internet. I figured a quick search would give me a general idea. I typed in something like “volleyball game duration” and started browsing.
I found some general information saying that most games last between 60 to 90 minutes. It also mentioned something about sets, best-of-three versus best-of-five, which I kind of remembered from high school gym class.
To get a clearer picture, I looked at a couple of different websites. It seemed like best-of-three matches are usually quicker, around an hour, and best-of-five can go closer to two hours. That made sense – more sets, more time.
Then I stumbled upon some info about beach volleyball. Apparently, those games are a bit shorter, around 45 minutes on average. That’s probably because they only play best-of-three sets, and maybe moving on sand takes more energy, so they keep it shorter.
Putting It All Together
So, I figured, for planning purposes, I should assume the game we were watching (an indoor, best-of-five match) could last up to two hours. Better to have too much food than not enough, right? Plus, if it ended up being shorter, we’d just have leftovers. No big deal.
In the end, the game we watched actually took around 1 hour and 45 minutes. I guess that was a pretty good estimate based on my little research project!
