Okay, so the other day I was trying to figure out my schedule for the week, and my kid had a volleyball game. That got me thinking, “How long do these middle school volleyball games actually last?” I mean, I needed to know if I could squeeze in a grocery run afterwards or if I’d be stuck at the gym all evening.
First, I looked at the school’s website. Nothing. Just the date and time, no details about the game’s length. Seriously, who runs that website?
My Hunt for Answers
Next, I called up another parent, Sarah, whose kid is also on the team. She’s usually pretty clued in, so I was hoping for a quick answer. No luck. She guessed “around an hour, maybe an hour and a half?” Helpful, but not exactly concrete.
So, I did what any resourceful parent would do – I went down the rabbit hole of online forums. I found some threads about high school games, but middle school? Not much. I guess most people just show up and hope for the best.
The Actual Game Day
Finally, game day arrived. I made sure to arrive early, armed with snacks and a fully charged phone (for entertainment, of course). The game started, and I kept a close eye on the clock.
- First set: Boom! Done in about 20 minutes.
- Second set: A bit longer, maybe 25 minutes, with a few time-outs.
They played best-of-three, so with a quick two-set win and a short warm-up, the whole thing was over in under an hour. Seriously! I was shocked. I had prepared myself for a volleyball marathon, and it was more like a sprint. I think the overall process took 45 minutes.
So, lesson learned: middle school volleyball games are pretty short. I could’ve easily fit in that grocery run. Next time, I’ll know better and maybe even bring a book. Or at least plan a quick errand for afterwards.
