Okay, so today I went to check out a high school volleyball game. I’ve been meaning to get back into watching sports, and volleyball seemed like a good, energetic option. Plus, I’ve got some free time now, so why not?

First thing I did was look up the local high schools. Found out which ones were playing tonight, and picked a game that was pretty close to me. Didn’t want to drive across town for this.
Getting there was simple enough. I just plugged the school’s address into my phone and followed the directions. Parking was a bit of a mess, though. Lots of parents and students all trying to find a spot. Finally found one a few blocks away and walked over.
The Game Itself
Got to the gym, paid the entry fee – pretty cheap, like five bucks – and found a seat in the bleachers. Wasn’t too crowded, which was nice. I could actually see the court without craning my neck.
- The game was pretty exciting! Lots of back-and-forth. One team would score, then the other.
- These girls were good! Some serious spikes and dives. Way more intense than I remember high school sports being.
- The crowd was really into it, too. Cheering, clapping…the usual.
- I’ve watched some live games before, but I could only watch them from the stands, but this time, I was able to capture some exciting moments on video.
I recorded some videos of the game. I’m planning to organize the video clips and maybe share them someday.
Between sets, I just kinda people-watched. Saw some families, groups of friends…it was a good atmosphere. Made me realize how much I miss being part of a crowd, you know?
The home team ended up winning, which got the crowd even more hyped up. Lots of cheering and high-fives. I clapped along, felt good to be part of it.

Afterward, I just walked back to my car and drove home. Simple as that.
Overall, it was a good night. Got me out of the house, saw some good sports action, and felt a little bit connected to the community. Might even go to another game next week. We’ll see.
