Okay, so I had this crazy idea to play volleyball in the dark. Not just any dark, but like, glow-in-the-dark dark. I’ve seen those glow-in-the-dark parties, and thought, “Why not volleyball?”
Getting Ready
First, I needed a volleyball, obviously. I found this one online that was already glow-in-the-dark. Score!
Next up: the net. This took some more thinking. I didn’t find anything pre-made, So I grabbed a regular net and a bunch of glow sticks, then Started cracking those glow sticks and wove them into the net. Took a while, but it looked pretty cool when I was done, all zig-zaggy and glowing green.

Setting the Scene
I wanted the court lines to glow, too. I thought about using glow-in-the-dark paint, but that sounded messy. So, I opted for glow-in-the-dark duct tape. I carefully laid out the tape along the court boundaries in my backyard. It wasn’t perfect, a little crooked in spots, but hey, it was gonna be dark anyway!
Game Time!
I invited a few friends over, and we waited until it was good and dark. Everyone wore white or neon clothes to make them stand out, and We cracked even more glow sticks and made bracelets and necklaces. We all looked ridiculous, but that was part of the fun.
When we started playing, it was hilarious. The ball was this glowing orb flying through the air, and the net was this shimmering green barrier. It was harder to see than regular volleyball, of course. We missed the ball a lot, bumped into each other, and generally looked like fools. But we were laughing so hard, it didn’t even matter.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, it was one of the most fun games of volleyball I’ve ever played. Totally worth the effort of setting it all up. If you’re looking for a silly, unique way to spend an evening, I highly recommend giving glow-in-the-dark volleyball a try. Just be prepared to stumble around a bit – and have a lot of laughs!
