Okay, so I decided to give this “Game Spike Volleyball” thing a shot. I’d seen some videos online, and it looked like a blast. Plus, I needed a new way to get some exercise in that didn’t feel like, well, exercise.

First thing I did was grab a net and a ball. I went with a standard, entry level set. Didn’t see the use spending big before confirming that I like that.
Then came the hard part – finding some people to play with. I hit up a few friends, and surprisingly, they were game. We’re all pretty average when it comes to athletic ability, so I figured we’d be evenly matched, more or less.
Our First Attempt…
We met up at the local park. It has a big, grassy area that seemed perfect. Setting up the net was a little confusing at first, a diagram helped us.
- We spread out.
- Tried to hit the ball.
- And mostly missed.
It was pretty hilarious. I think we spent more time chasing the ball than actually playing. We fumbled around, bumped into each other, and generally looked like a bunch of clowns. But you know what? It was FUN. We were laughing so hard our sides hurt. We played best out of three and to 15 points first. It was taking so long that we decided the first to 11 won instead.
Getting the Hang of It (Sort Of)
After a few rounds, we started to get a little better. We figured out you’re supposed to hit the ball down onto the net, not up like in regular volleyball. I discovered that the key is use both hands simultaneously. Once we got that down, we actually had some decent volleys going.
I even managed to spike the ball a couple of times! It felt awesome. It is like a mini victory every time you make a good play. I definitely worked up a sweat, and my arms were a little sore the next day, but in a good way.

My Verdict
So, “Game Spike Volleyball” gets a thumbs up from me. It’s a fun, goofy, and surprisingly active way to spend an afternoon. It’s perfect for people like me who aren’t super athletic but still want to get moving and have a laugh. I’m already planning our next game!
I will keep practicing and share my progress again.
