Okay, so I finally got my hands on the Garmin Vivomove Sport. I’ve been eyeing a hybrid smartwatch for a while – something that looks like a regular watch but still has some smart features. This seemed to fit the bill, so I decided to give it a shot.
Unboxing and First Impressions
First thing I did, obviously, was rip open the box. Inside, there’s the watch itself, a charging cable, and some quick start guides. I picked up the black one ’cause, you know, it goes with everything. The watch face is pretty clean, with just the analog hands at first glance. The hidden touchscreen display only pops up when you interact with it.
I put it to charge.
Setting it Up
Next up, getting it connected. I downloaded the Garmin Connect app on my phone (I’m on Android, by the way). Pairing was pretty straightforward. I opened the app, followed the on-screen prompts to create an account or log in (I had an older account), and then selected “Add Device.” The app found the Vivomove Sport pretty quickly, and I just followed the instructions to connect it via Bluetooth.
Exploring the Features
Once it was all set up, I started playing around with it. The touchscreen is activated with a double-tap or a wrist flick. It took me a little bit to get used to the gestures, but once I did, it was smooth sailing.
- Swiping through the screens, I could see things like my steps, heart rate, Body Battery (Garmin’s energy level metric), stress level, and notifications.
- I could start a workout by tapping the workout icon and selecting the activity (walking, running, etc.).
- I also checked the settings to customize things like the watch face display and which notifications I wanted to see.
Daily Use and Observations
I’ve been wearing it for a week now, and I’m pretty happy with it. The battery life is great – I only need to charge it every few days. I mainly use it for tracking my steps, sleep, and getting notifications from my phone. I like that I can read messages and see who’s calling without having to pull out my phone all the time.
It took a bit of getting used to not having a full-color display all the time, but I realized I didn’t really need it. The analog hands give it a classic look, and the hidden display is there when I need the extra info.
The sleep tracking seems accurate, and the Body Battery is kind of interesting. It’s basically a score that tells you how much energy you have based on your activity, stress, and sleep. It’s been a good reminder to take it easy when I’m feeling drained.
Final Thoughts (for now)
Overall, I’m really enjoying the Garmin Vivomove Sport. It’s a good balance of style and function. It’s not as feature-packed as some of the other smartwatches out there, but that’s kind of the point. It’s a stylish watch that also happens to be smart. I’ll keep wearing it and update this if anything changes, but so far, so good!
