Okay, so the other day I decided to get back into volleyball a bit. I haven’t played in ages, and I figured a good way to ease back in would be to work on my bump pass. You know, the basic forearm pass? So, I went searching online for some drills and stumbled upon this “bump pass volleyball game” idea. It sounded simple enough, so I gave it a shot.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed my old volleyball from the garage. It was a little deflated, so I pumped it up. Then, I headed out to my backyard. It’s not huge, but it’s got enough space for some basic drills.
The Drill (or Game, I guess!)
- I started by just tossing the ball up in the air and bumping it to myself. Just trying to get a feel for it again, you know?
- Then, I tried to see how many times I could bump it consecutively without it hitting the ground. It’s harder than it sounds, especially after not playing for so long!
- My first few attempts were pretty rough. The ball went every which way. Sometimes too far forward, sometimes shooting off to the side.
Making Adjustments
I realized I was being too stiff. My arms were locked, and I wasn’t really moving my feet. So, I focused on:
- Bending my knees more.
- Keeping my arms a bit more relaxed, but still together.
- Shuffling my feet to get under the ball, instead of just reaching.
Getting Better (Slowly!)
After those changes, things started to improve. I managed to get a few decent rallies going with myself. Nothing crazy, but it felt good to get some consistent bumps.
I even tried setting a target. I placed a small cone in the yard and aimed to bump the ball towards it. This helped me work on control and accuracy, not just keeping the ball alive.
Wrap Up
I probably spent about 30 minutes doing this “game”. By the end, my forearms were a little red, but it felt good. I definitely need to work on my consistency, but it was a fun way to shake off the rust. It’s simple but it works! I will do it tomorrow!
