Okay, so “Head of Sport”… I gotta admit, when I first saw this title, I was like, “What the heck am I even supposed to do with this?” I mean, it’s so broad! But, you know, I figured I’d give it a shot, see what I could come up with.

First things first, I needed to figure out what I was even aiming for. Was I supposed to become some kind of expert? Organize a sports event? I decided to start small. I picked one sport I kinda knew – basketball. I figured I could try to improve my own skills and then, I dunno, maybe teach someone else?
My Basketball “Journey”
- Step 1: Embarrass Myself. Seriously, I went to the local court and, well, let’s just say I wasn’t exactly LeBron James. I dribbled the ball off my foot more times than I care to admit.
- Step 2: YouTube to the Rescue. I spent hours watching videos. Basic dribbling drills, shooting techniques, everything. It was kinda overwhelming, to be honest.
- Step 3: Practice, Practice, Practice,Fumble. I went back to the court every other day. I still stunk, but I could feel myself getting a little bit better. I could actually dribble without looking down (most of the time)!
- Step 4: Find a Victim… I Mean, Student..I persuaded to pratice my friend, to let me “teach” him. He’s even worse than me at basketball, so I figured it was a safe bet.
- Step 5: Teach and learn..I showed him some basic drills, and tried to explain some concepts.I found out I learned much more from teaching.
So, am I the “Head of Sport” now? Nope, not even close. But I definitely learned something. I learned that even if you’re terrible at something, you can still get better with practice. I learned that teaching someone else can actually help you learn more. And I learned that I probably won’t be quitting my day job to become a basketball coach anytime *’s kind of a fun experiment.
