My Quest for the Perfect Volleyball Recording Setup
First, I tried using my phone. I mean, it’s always with me, right? So, I propped it up on a water bottle, hit record, and… disaster. The angle was weird, the video was shaky, and I missed half the action because I was too busy playing to adjust it. Nope, that wasn’t going to cut it.
Then, I remembered I had an old GoPro lying around. “This is it!” I thought. “Action camera for an action sport!” I charged it up, found a mount, and… well, it was better, but still not great. The wide-angle lens made everyone look tiny, and the battery died halfway through the second set. Plus, reviewing the footage was a pain.
Experimenting with Different Cameras
- Phone: Convenient, but shaky and bad angles.
- GoPro: Wide-angle made it hard to see, short battery life.
I was starting to get frustrated. I really wanted to be able to watch my games back, analyze my plays, and share highlights with my friends. So, I decided to do some actual research. I spent hours reading articles, watching YouTube videos, and comparing specs. It was overwhelming!
There are tons of cameras with many different features, different size, different view angle.
After spending hours of research, I finally made my choice!
Because it has solid image stabilization, good zoom capabilities, and it’s not overly complicated to use. I also like that it’s a dedicated video camera, so I don’t have to worry about phone calls interrupting my recordings. It is easy to setup.

It’s been a game-changer! The footage is clear, I can actually see what’s happening, and I can even zoom in on the important plays. I’m finally able to record my volleyball games and actually enjoy watching them back. If you’re struggling to find a good way to record your games, do your research and take time to test different cameras!
