Today, I wanted to talk about getting my kid into this whole JO volleyball thing. It’s also called Club Volleyball, whatever that means. I did some digging cause my little one, she’s just turned ten, seems really into volleyball after playing it at school. Turns out, this Club Volleyball is a pretty big deal for kids who want to keep playing after the school season ends.
So, I started looking into it, reading up on what it takes to get involved. First thing I did was find out where the local clubs are. We checked out a few practices, just to get a feel for it. The energy was crazy, kids everywhere, balls flying, coaches shouting, you know, the usual sports chaos. My kid’s eyes were huge, like she’d just walked into Disneyland or something.
- Watched a few practices to see if it was a good fit.
- Talked to some of the coaches and other parents to get the inside scoop.
- Got the lowdown on the costs, the time commitment, all that jazz.
After that, we went to the tryouts. Talk about nerve-wracking! But she did great, showed off her skills. She’s a natural, I tell ya. Anyway, she made it onto a team. I was so proud, I nearly burst into tears right there on the court.
Getting Her Ready
Next step was getting her all the gear she needed. Shoes, knee pads, the whole nine yards. Let me tell you, there’s a lot of stuff out there for volleyball. We even got her a new water bottle. Gotta stay hydrated, right? We also started her on some simple strength training, nothing crazy. I found out that it helps them a lot on the court.
Now, she’s in the thick of it, practicing several times a week, playing in tournaments on weekends. It’s a lot, but she loves it. And you know what? I’m seeing her grow, not just in volleyball, but as a person. She’s more confident, more disciplined, and she’s making friends. It’s pretty awesome to watch.
So, that’s our journey into the world of JO volleyball. It’s been a ride, but a good one. If your kid’s into volleyball, I’d say it’s definitely something to look into. Just be prepared for a lot of driving around and cheering from the sidelines!
