Alright, so, I’ve been meaning to share this for a while now. I got involved with the East Jackson Eagles 10U football team this year, 2023, and let me tell you, it was a journey.

It all started with a simple search, I guess. I wanted to find something to do in my local community, give back a little, you know? I stumbled upon the East Jackson Eagles, a youth football program, and they were looking for volunteers. I’ve always loved football, so I thought, why not?
First, I reached out to them. Their website had some basic info – schedules, rosters, photos, the usual stuff. But I wanted to know more. I found a contact number and gave them a call. A really nice lady, a team mom I think, explained how I could get involved.
Then, I went down to one of their practices. It was a bit chaotic, 10-year-olds running around everywhere, but it was fun. I met the coaches, some really dedicated guys, and other volunteers. Everyone was super welcoming, which was great.
Initially, I helped out with simple stuff. Setting up cones, organizing drills, that sort of thing. I wasn’t coaching or anything, just helping out where I could. But it felt good to be part of something, you know? The kids were great, full of energy. They reminded me why I loved the sport in the first place.
- Helped with equipment
- Organized drills
- Assisted coaches
Gradually, I got more involved. I started learning the plays, understanding the game at a deeper level. The coaches were really helpful, they took the time to explain things to me, even though I wasn’t officially part of the coaching staff.
Eventually, I started helping out during the games. I was on the sidelines, keeping track of substitutions, making sure the kids were hydrated, stuff like that. It was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but I got the hang of it. The games were exciting, even though these were just 10-year-olds. It was a real community event, with parents and families cheering from the stands.
The highlight of the season was probably the homecoming game. They played against the East Hall Vikings. The atmosphere was electric, it felt like a real big-time football game. Our team played really well, and it was just a great experience to be part of it all.
Looking back, it was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot, not just about football, but about teamwork, community, and the importance of giving back. Those kids, they worked so hard, and it was really rewarding to see them grow and improve throughout the season.
So yeah, that’s my story about my time with the East Jackson Eagles 10U football team in 2023. It was a blast, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get involved in their local community. You won’t regret it.
