Okay, so, today I wanted to get into some basketball drills. I’ve been feeling like my game’s gotten a bit rusty, and I figured it’s time to shake off the cobwebs. I decided to focus on the “and 2” drill, which sounds simple but really tests your basic skills.
First off, I started with some warm-ups. You know, gotta get the blood flowing. I did some light jogging around my backyard, followed by some stretching. Nothing fancy, just enough to get my muscles ready. I grabbed my old basketball, the one with the worn-out grip, and headed to the hoop I set up a while back.
I started with dribbling. Left hand, right hand, between the legs – the whole shebang. I practiced dribbling while walking, then jogging, and finally sprinting. I even tried dribbling with my eyes closed, just to get a better feel for the ball. I pretended there were defenders I had to do a crossover.
After that, I moved on to passing. Since I was alone, I used the wall as my teammate.
- I practiced chest passes, focusing on keeping my elbows in and stepping forward with each pass.
- I also worked on bounce passes, trying to get the ball to hit the wall at just the right spot so it would bounce back to me perfectly.
Then I just did a one hand pass and two-handed pass to myself and also behind my back just for fun.
Then came the shooting part. I started close to the basket, just a few feet away. I took my time with each shot, focusing on my form and making sure I followed through. As I got more comfortable, I moved further and further back. I practiced jump shots, layups, and even a few three-pointers. After, like, 50 shots, I started to feel the burn in my arms, but it felt good, you know?
Finally, I put it all together. I would dribble towards the basket, pass to myself (off the wall), catch the “pass,” and then go up for a shot. I tried to do it as smoothly as possible, like it was a real game situation. I missed a bunch of shots, but that’s okay. It’s all about practice, right?
By the end of it, I was sweating like crazy and my legs were feeling it. But I felt great. It’s amazing how much better you can feel after just a little bit of practice. I know I’ve still got a long way to go, but today was a good start. I’m definitely going to keep doing these drills, maybe even add some new ones into the mix.
Anyway, that’s my basketball drill story for today. Hope you enjoyed it. If you’ve got any drills you like to do, let me know. I’m always up for trying something new! I will keep recording and see you next time.
