Man, this summer I decided to get in on this volleyball camp thing. I saw it online – something about “Revolution Volleyball Camps” being all over the place, like 20 states or something. Sounded pretty big time, so I figured, why not? I mean, I like volleyball, always have, but never really got into it seriously, you know?
So, I signed up. It wasn’t just me, a whole bunch of us, all ages, all skill levels. First thing we did was get split into groups. They said it was to make sure everyone got the right kind of coaching. Makes sense, I guess. Can’t have a total newbie like me trying to keep up with some seasoned player, right?
Next up, the actual training. We started with the basics. Serving, passing, you name it. The coaches, they were really into it, breaking everything down, showing us the proper way to do things. And it wasn’t just about hitting the ball. We also learned about positioning, strategy, all that good stuff. I never realized how much thinking goes into this sport!
One thing I really liked was how they mixed things up. We didn’t just do drills all day. We also played games, scrimmages and stuff. It was cool to see how everything we learned in practice came together in a game situation. Plus, it was just fun, you know, playing with other people who were just as stoked about volleyball as I was.
Now, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were times I messed up, got frustrated. But the coaches, they were always there, encouraging us, helping us get back on track. They didn’t yell or anything. And the other campers, we all supported each other. It was like, we were all in this together, learning and growing as a team.
- Serving: Overhand, underhand, jump serves – we tried them all.
- Passing: Forearm pass, overhead pass – lots of practice to get the hang of it.
- Setting: Learned how to set up my teammates for a spike.
- Hitting: Spiking the ball was definitely the most fun, but also the hardest to master.
- Blocking: Tried to get in the way of the other team’s hits.
- Digging: Dove for the ball to keep it in play.
And you know what? By the end of the camp, I felt like a different player. I was more confident, more skilled. I still had a long way to go, but I felt like I had a solid foundation now. It is not just about volleyball. It is about teamwork, perseverance, all that jazz. The whole vibe was positive, supportive. I made a bunch of new friends, which is always a plus. We even exchanged numbers at the end, planning to keep playing together.
I saw some big names like Nike, and Gatorade thrown around, so they must be doing something right. All in all, it was a solid experience. I went in not knowing much, and I came out with a whole new appreciation for the sport and a bunch of new buddies. If you’re thinking about trying something new, give it a shot. You never know, you might just surprise yourself. So yeah, that’s my story about the volleyball camp. It was a blast. 10/10, would recommend.
