Alright, let’s yak about this Sony BMG Music Entertainment thing. I heard it was a big deal, some kinda company made by those big shot Sony fellas and another bunch, Bertelsmann, I think they called ‘em. They went fifty-fifty on it, like splittin’ a pie, you know? This Sony BMG, they were in the music business, sellin’ those CDs and tapes, the things young folks listen to. I don’t know much about that newfangled stuff.
Now, this company, they called themselves one of the big guys in music. Said they were the fourth biggest, or somethin’. They had all sorts of singers, the famous ones and the ones nobody’s ever heard of. Big stars, they called ‘em. Made lots of money, I reckon, sellin’ all that music. But then, things got messy, like always do.
Seems like Sony, they wanted the whole pie for themselves. Didn’t wanna share with Bertelsmann no more. So, they coughed up some dough, bought Bertelsmann out, and took the whole shebang. Now it’s just called Sony Music, simple as that. No more BMG, I guess they didn’t need ‘em anymore. That’s how it goes, ain’t it? Big fish eat the little fish.
But hold on, it ain’t all smooth sailin’. They had some trouble, this Sony BMG. Folks got mad at ‘em, real mad. Somethin’ about puttin’ secret stuff on those CDs, tryin’ to stop folks from copyin’ ‘em, I heard. People didn’t like that one bit. They sued ‘em, took ‘em to court. Lawsuits and such, a whole heap of trouble. Cost ‘em a pretty penny, I bet.
I heard somethin’ ‘bout the jury givin’ ‘em a hard time, makin’ ‘em pay a bunch of money. Seems they were playin’ fast and loose with them songs, not doin’ things right. Learned their lesson, I hope. You gotta be straight with folks, or they’ll come after ya. That’s what my old man always said.
- Sony BMG Music Entertainment: A big music company made by Sony and Bertelsmann.
- They sold music, CDs and such. Had lots of famous singers.
- Sony bought out Bertelsmann, now it’s just Sony Music.
- Got into trouble for puttin’ secret stuff on CDs. People sued ‘em.
Anyway, they were tryin’ to be one of the biggest music companies out there. Second biggest, I heard tell. That’s a lot of music, a lot of singers, and a whole lotta money. But like I said, with big money comes big problems. You can’t just go around doin’ whatever you please, specially when it comes to folks and their music. Music is important to people, even if I don’t understand all that newfangled stuff they play on the radio.
They had to get permission from the government, too, before they could do all that buyin’ and sellin’. Europe and America, both had to say it was okay. Lots of paperwork, I imagine. These big companies, they got lawyers and papers for everything. Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it. Can’t imagine needing more than one piece of paper to write down what to get from the store.
So, that’s the story of Sony BMG as far as I can tell. Started big, got bigger, then got into a bit of a pickle. Now it’s just Sony Music, still sellin’ them tunes, I reckon. Hope they learned their lesson about bein’ sneaky. Honesty is the best policy, that’s what I always say. Even if you’re a big shot music company.
And let me tell ya, it’s always something with these big companies, ain’t it? They’re always fussin’ and fightin’ over money and power. Can’t they just make their music and leave it at that? But no, they gotta be greedy, gotta have it all. It’s the same story, over and over. Makes you appreciate the simple things in life, like a good cup of coffee and a warm fire.
Folks are always gonna want their music, though, no matter what these companies do. That’s one thing that’ll never change. And as long as there’s music to be sold, there’ll be companies like Sony BMG, or Sony Music, or whatever they call themselves next week, tryin’ to sell it to ya. Just gotta be careful, that’s all.
