Hey guys, what’s up! Today I’m gonna talk about something I recently got into – high school volleyball games. Specifically, I wanted to figure out how long these matches usually are. You see, I’ve started attending my little sister’s volleyball games, and I was curious about the time commitment. So, I did a bit of digging and here’s what I found out.

First, I hit up the internet, just like any normal person would do. I typed in “how long is a high school volleyball game” into the search bar and started reading through the results. It was kinda all over the place, but the general idea was that these games tend to last somewhere between 60 to 90 minutes. That’s including the warm-up time, which makes sense.
But then, I realized that just reading about it wasn’t enough. I needed to see for myself! So, I went to a few of my sister’s games and started timing them. I used my trusty phone’s stopwatch, nothing fancy. And you know what? The internet was pretty spot on.
- The first game I timed went on for about 70 minutes, including warm-ups. It was a pretty standard three-set match, nothing too intense.
- The second game was a bit longer, clocking in at around 85 minutes. This one went to four sets, and there were a few longer rallies, so that added some time.
- Finally, I witnessed a real nail-biter that lasted a full 90 minutes! This was a five-set thriller, with both teams really going at it. Each set was super close, and the energy in the gym was electric.
What I learned from my little experiment is that there’s no fixed time for these games. It really depends on how many sets they play and how competitive each set is. A quick three-set match might only take about an hour, while a five-set battle can easily go over 90 minutes.
Oh, and get this – I also read that the longest volleyball game ever recorded went on for over 85 hours! Can you believe that? It happened in the Netherlands. I can’t even imagine playing for that long. I’d be dead tired after just one set!
So, there you have it. My deep dive into the world of high school volleyball game durations. It was a fun little project, and now I’m much better prepared for future games. I can plan my day accordingly and make sure I have enough snacks to last me through those marathon five-setters! It’s always better to be informed, right?
