Okay, so I’ve been digging into the history of Bertrand High School football, specifically the 1962 season. It’s been a bit of a wild ride, to be honest. I started out just wanting to find the roster, you know, see who was playing back then. I figured it would be easy to find online, but boy, was I wrong.
First, I hit up the usual spots, you know, the school’s website, maybe some sports archives. No dice. The school site had some stuff, but nothing that old. It was like the internet forgot about anything before 2000. Then I thought, maybe some old yearbooks are digitized somewhere. Found a site that seemed promising, it had yearbooks, asked me to sign up. I thought, “Sure, why not?”. But it was all modern stuff. Nothing from ’62.
So, I kept digging. I stumbled upon a few mentions of reunions, which got me thinking, maybe someone kept records there. But again, nothing concrete. I did find some interesting tidbits, though. Like, there was this thing about a “Silver Anniversary Team” from 1991-92. Apparently, they went 13-0 and won some championship. That was cool, but not what I was looking for. I just want to know the 1962 team, man!
Then I found some more recent stuff, livestreams of games, highlights, and upcoming events. They’ve got a pretty active sports program now, it seems. But still no sign of that 1962 roster. I even found a page with some stats for a guy named JD Bertrand, who seems to be a current or recent player. He’s played 12 games, but that’s not helping me with 1962.
I even found a mention of a “Father Bertrand” from way back in August 2012. A very old record, but again, nothing to do with the 1962 football team. It’s frustrating, to say the least. I am just curious about this old team.
I also found out that in 1982, they used to name captains before each game. It’s written somewhere that “(C)” indicates a captain.
Where I’m at Now:

- Found: Some recent game info, a tidbit about a 1991-92 team, a current player’s stats, a mention of “Father Bertrand” from 2012, and the 1982 captain indication.
- Still Missing: The actual 1962 roster.
It’s like this piece of history is just lost to time. But I’m not giving up yet. I might try to contact the school directly, see if they have any old records in some dusty archive.
