Okay, so, I was watching a football game with some buddies the other day, and we got into this silly argument. It was one of those things that started as a joke but then nobody really knew the answer to.
We were trying to remember how many quarters there are in a football game. I mean, I’ve watched tons of games, but for some reason, I just blanked. One of my friends, he’s always got to be right, he insisted it was three. Another one, he thought it might be five, just to be different, I guess.
So, we did what any group of friends would do – we pulled out our phones and started searching. And there was some stuff about each quarter being 15 minutes in NFL or college ball, but in high school it’s 12 minutes per quarter.
Anyway, after a bit of reading, and some more arguing, we finally figured it out. Turns out, a standard football game, no matter pro, college, or even high school, has four quarters. Each of those quarters is usually 15 minutes long, at least for the pros and college games. For high school, it’s a little shorter, 12 minutes.
We also learned that there’s a break, they call it halftime, after the first two quarters, and then the game resumes with the last two quarters.
- I started by watching a football game with friends.
- We argued about the number of quarters in a football game.
- We searched for the answer online.
- We found that standard football games have four quarters.
- We learned that each quarter is typically 15 minutes long for professional and college football games and 12 minutes for high school games.
- We discovered that there’s a halftime break after the first two quarters.
So, yeah, that was our little adventure into the world of football rules. It’s funny how you can watch something for years and still not know all the basics.
