I’ve always been a big fan of volleyball, and when I heard about the Beach Volleyball World Pro Tour Finals happening in Doha, I just knew I had to be there. I mean, the best of the best competing in one of the most prestigious events of the year? Count me in!
So, I booked my tickets and packed my bags for Qatar. I did a bit of reading beforehand and found out that the event was going to be held at Aspire Park, which seemed like a cool place to host such a big tournament. The dates were set from January 26 to 29, 2023, right at the start of the new year. Perfect timing!
I arrived in Doha a couple of days early to get settled in and explore the city a bit. The vibe was electric, with lots of folks excited about the event. Finally, the day of the tournament came, and I headed over to Aspire Park. The setup was awesome, it’s well organized. There were ten men’s teams and ten women’s teams, all ready to battle it out for the championship. I was pumped to see Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, the local heroes who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, they’re really big deals here.
I watched match after match, soaking in the energy and the amazing plays. It was so cool to see how these teams had earned their spots through some tough competitions during the 2022 Beach Pro Tour. It wasn’t just the men’s matches that caught my eye, though. I learned that Qatar was pushing hard to improve its indoor volleyball game, with help from the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment program. Also, I heard that Qatar’s women’s team was competing in a major international tournament for the first time ever. That’s pretty historic, if you ask me.
- Watched the matches, feeling the energy, and marveling at the skills.
- Cheered for Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, the hometown heroes.
- Learned about Qatar’s growing efforts in both beach and indoor volleyball.
- Felt the excitement of seeing Qatar’s women’s team make history.
The tournament was a blast. I got to witness some top-tier beach volleyball and see some incredible sportsmanship. Plus, being in Doha, I took the chance to explore more of what Qatar had to offer, I went to some cool places. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience. Seeing the world’s best volleyball players in action, learning about Qatar’s volleyball ambitions, and just being part of such a big event – it was all totally worth it. I left Doha with a heart full of great memories and a phone full of awesome pictures, can’t wait to share them with my followers!
