Okay, so today I want to talk about my experience recording a volleyball game. It was quite a learning curve, let me tell you.
First off, I decided to film a local college volleyball match. I figured it would be a good opportunity to practice my video skills. I packed my gear – camera, extra batteries, and a tripod. Yeah, that tripod is key. You really need it to keep the video steady, otherwise, it’s just a shaky mess.
Setting Up
- Found a spot behind our team’s side of the net.
- Made sure I could capture the whole court in the frame. It’s no good if you’re missing half the action, right?
- Set up my tripod and camera.
Then the game started. It was a pretty intense match, five sets in total. You know, in college volleyball, they play best of five. The first team to win three sets takes the match. Each set goes to 25 points, but you gotta win by at least two points. Makes it pretty exciting.
The Filming Process
I tried to keep the camera rolling as much as possible, only pausing during timeouts and between sets. Oh, and I switched sides after each set to get a different perspective. I remembered reading somewhere that it’s good to do that. Each match had a crazy number of rallies. I think one match even had over 150 rallies! It was nuts.
During the game, I focused on following the ball, trying to keep it in the frame as much as possible. It was tough, especially when the players were diving and spiking all over the place. The players use their hands to hit the ball over a high net. It’s really intense! They’re trying to make the ball touch the court on the other side.
Post-Game
After the match, I ended up with a ton of footage. I mean, hours of it. I spent the next few days going through it all, picking out the best rallies and highlights. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. I also watched some Olympic volleyball match replays online. Those players are amazing!
Overall, it was a great experience. I learned a lot about filming sports, and I got some pretty cool footage out of it. It’s definitely something I want to do again. Maybe I’ll even try to find some of those “99 Cup” games in Hainan to watch. I saw some clips online, and they looked intense. Or maybe some of those European volleyball matches.
Anyway, that’s my story about filming a volleyball game. Hope you enjoyed it!
