Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole dynasty fantasy football thing, and let me tell you, it’s a whole different beast. Unlike those regular leagues where you draft a new team every year, in dynasty, you keep your players. Yeah, you heard that right. It’s like being a real team owner, except I don’t have billions of dollars.
So, I was looking at my tight end situation, and it came down to two guys: Jake Ferguson and Trey McBride. Both seemed pretty solid, but I needed to figure out who was the better long-term investment. I mean, in dynasty, you’re thinking years ahead, not just next week.
First, I dove into some trade value stuff. I found out that Ferguson’s market value was around 2.90, which apparently puts him way down the list of wide receivers, but whatever. More importantly, his value had been as high as 5.65 in the last couple of months. Good to know, I guess.
Then, I started looking at their points per game from last year. I mean, that’s what really matters, right? Points win games. I saw some charts that compared the points per game for different positions based on where players were drafted. It got a little confusing with all the percentages and stuff, but I got the general idea.
- I also saw something about VORP, which I think is like “value over replacement player.”
- Apparently, quarterbacks had a VORP of 102, running backs were 288, and wide receivers were 287.
- Not sure what to do with that info yet, but I wrote it down.
Next, I tried to find some head-to-head comparisons between Ferguson and McBride. There were a bunch of websites that offered side-by-side stats. I scrolled through those, looking at things like targets, receptions, yards, and touchdowns. It was a lot of numbers, and honestly, they were pretty close in a lot of categories.
After that, I checked out some expert opinions. I found this site called “Fantasy Footballers” or something, and they had advice on who to start for Week 16. Week 16? I needed long-term advice, but I read it anyway. They seemed to like both players, which wasn’t super helpful.
I also stumbled upon some projections for the future. These were more interesting. One site had projections for Ferguson, and it looked decent. Good, good. But I needed to see McBride’s too to compare.
Then, I found a tool that was supposed to help with draft decisions. You could put in both players, and it would tell you who to pick. It took into account a ton of factors, which was cool. I plugged in Ferguson and McBride, and… it gave a slight edge to one of them. I won’t say who yet, gotta keep some suspense, right?
Finally, I looked at some overall draft advice for the 2024 season. This was more big-picture stuff. Again, I saw a lot of opinions on both Ferguson and McBride. Some experts liked one, some liked the other. It was kind of a toss-up.
So, after all that research, what did I decide? Well, it was tough. Both Ferguson and McBride are young, talented tight ends with a lot of potential. But in the end, I had to make a choice.
My Choice
I decided to go with… well, you’ll have to wait for my next post to find out! Just kidding (sort of). It really came down to the smallest of margins, and honestly, I might change my mind tomorrow. But for now, I’m leaning towards one of them based on a gut feeling, some projections, and the fact that I like the team he plays for a little bit more. Dynasty fantasy football, man. It’s a wild ride.
