Okay, so today I finally got around to playing that volleyball game, “Spike Volleyball.” I’d seen some ads for it and, you know, I’m always up for a new sports game to try out. I’m not the biggest volleyball expert, but I figured, how hard could it be?

First, I fired up the game on my console. The intro was pretty hype, lots of dramatic music and action shots. Got me in the mood. Then I jumped into the tutorial. That’s where things got a little…interesting.
The controls, man, they were not intuitive. At least not for me. You’ve got buttons for bumping, setting, spiking, blocking…and then you gotta use the analog sticks for positioning and aiming. My fingers were all over the place. I spent a good half hour just trying to consistently serve the ball over the net. Seriously, I felt like a total noob.
- Bump – X button
- Set – Y button
- Spike – B button
- Block- A button
- Move – Left stick
- Aim – Right stick
After I got the hang of the very basics, I decided to try a quick match. I picked a random team (I think they were from Brazil?) and went up against… I don’t even remember. I was too focused on just trying to keep the ball in play.
My First Real Match… A Disaster
Let me tell you, it was rough. I missed so many spikes. I kept setting the ball too far, or too short. My players were diving all over the place, usually after the ball had already hit the ground. The other team? They were like a well-oiled machine. Every spike was a rocket. Every block was a wall. I think the final score was something like 25-5. It was brutal. But you know I kept on till I get a good score
I played a few more matches, and I did start to get a little better. I managed to win a few points here and there, even a whole game once! But overall, it’s a challenging game. There’s definitely a learning curve.
So, my final verdict? “Spike Volleyball” is tough. It’s not a pick-up-and-play kind of game. You gotta put in the time to learn the controls and the strategies. But, if you’re a big volleyball fan, or you’re looking for a sports game that’s a bit different, it might be worth checking out. Just be prepared to practice… a lot!
