Okay, so today I decided to really get into the nitty-gritty of volleyball rules. I mean, I’ve played casually with friends, but I wanted to know the actual rules, like for a proper game.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed my phone and started searching. I figured there’s gotta be tons of stuff online about this, and I was right!
Digging into the Details
I spent a good chunk of time reading through different websites. I quickly realized there’s more to it than just hitting the ball over the net. I focused on understanding these key areas:
- Serving: You gotta stand behind the line, and the ball has to go over the net without touching it. There are different types of serves, like underhand and overhand, but I just focused on the basics for now.
- Rotation: This one was confusing at first! Basically, your team rotates clockwise every time you win back the serve. I watched some videos to really get how this works on the court.
- Scoring: It’s rally scoring, which means a point is scored on every serve, no matter who served. I learned you usually play to 25 points, and you have to win by 2.
- Touches: Each team gets a maximum of three touches to get the ball back over the net. And you can’t hit the ball twice in a row (unless it’s a block, which is a whole other thing I looked into!).
- Faults: I made a list of common faults, like touching the net, stepping over the line when serving, or hitting the ball out of bounds. These are the things that can lose you a point.
Putting it into Practice
After I felt like I had a decent grasp of the rules, I grabbed a volleyball and headed outside. I practiced serving, just trying to get a feel for hitting the ball consistently over an imaginary net. Then I imagined playing a game, going through the rotations in my head, and thinking about the three-touch rule.
Still Learning
I know it’s I still be learning, but getting more about game rules, and I will keep updating the experience of game.
