Okay, so today I decided to really dig into the rules and regulations of volleyball. I’ve always enjoyed playing a bit of casual volleyball with friends, but I never really knew the proper rules. Time to change that!

First, I grabbed my phone and started searching for “official volleyball rules.” I found a bunch of websites, and it was a little overwhelming at first. So many details!
I decided to simplify things. I focused on the basics first, like the number of players on each team (six!), and the whole point system.
- Figured out that you play the game with 6 players.
- Also find out the basic scoring.
Then I moved on to more specific things, like what constitutes a fault. This is where it got a bit tricky. There are so many ways to mess up – touching the net, stepping over the line when you serve, hitting the ball out of bounds… the list goes on!
I spent a good hour just reading through different explanations and watching some videos to see the rules in action. It’s one thing to read about a “double hit,” but it’s another to actually see what it looks like.
I even tried to practice some of the serving rules in my backyard. Let’s just say, my neighbors might have seen a few volleyballs go flying over the fence… oops! I definitely need more practice with the underhand serve – it’s harder than it looks!
My main takeaways from today’s volleyball rules deep dive:
- Rotation is key! I finally understand how teams rotate positions after winning a point.
- Libero? Learned about this special defensive player who can sub in and out freely. Cool concept!
- So. Many. Fouls. Seriously, there are a lot of ways to lose a point. I need to be more mindful of the net and the lines.
Overall, I feel like I have a much better grasp of the official rules now. I’m still no expert, but at least I won’t be completely lost the next time I play. Now, I just need to get out there and put this newfound knowledge to the test (and hopefully keep the ball in the court this time!).
