Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out this “ring volleyball” thing for a while now. It looked like a fun, low-impact activity, and I figured it would be a good way to get some exercise without killing my knees.

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to get the gear. I went online and grabbed a ring volleyball set. It came with the net, the poles, and the inflatable ring – pretty much everything you need. I also rounded up a few friends because, let’s be real, playing alone would be kinda sad.
Setting Up
We picked a spot in my backyard that was relatively flat and free of any major obstacles (I didn’t want anyone tripping and face-planting). Setting up the net was…interesting. The instructions weren’t exactly crystal clear, so there was a bit of trial and error involved. We fumbled around with the poles and the net for a good 15 minutes, trying to figure out how it all went together. Eventually, we got it sorted, though it probably wasn’t as taut as it should have been.
Playing the Game
We did the game by server throws the ring over the net.
We divided into two teams of three.
- The receiving team must catch the ring and throw it back without letting it touch the ground.
- Each team is allowed a maximum of three catches/throws before the ring has to go back over the net.
- We played that a point was scored if the ring hit the ground, went out of bounds, or if a team failed to catch and return it properly.
The first few rounds were…chaotic, to say the least. We were all over the place, missing catches, throwing the ring wildly, and generally looking like a bunch of uncoordinated goofballs. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?

After a while, we started to get the hang of it. We figured out that shorter, more controlled throws were way more effective than trying to hurl the ring across the entire playing area. We also learned that communication is key – calling out who’s going for the ring helps prevent collisions and missed catches.
The Verdict
We ended up playing for about an hour, and by the end of it, we were all sweaty and tired, but in a good way. It was definitely a good workout, and it was way more fun than just hitting the gym. Plus, we got some good laughs out of it, which is always a bonus.
So, would I recommend ring volleyball? Absolutely! It’s a fun, social, and surprisingly challenging activity that’s perfect for a casual get-together. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve, and don’t be afraid to look silly while you’re figuring it out. That is great time!
