Okay, so I finally got around to playing Outlaw Volleyball on the PS2 again. It’s been years, and I was feeling nostalgic. First thing I did was dig out the old PS2 from the attic. It was dusty as hell, but I managed to find all the cables and hook it up to my TV.

Then, I rummaged through my old game collection. It took a while, but I finally found the Outlaw Volleyball disc. The case was a bit scratched up, and the manual was long gone, but the disc itself looked okay.
Firing It Up
I popped the disc into the PS2 and… it worked! The familiar intro music started playing, and I got that warm, fuzzy feeling of revisiting an old favorite. I grabbed my old, slightly sticky controller. I forgot how much smaller PS2 controllers are compared to modern ones!
I jumped straight into a quick match. My memory was a bit hazy on the controls, so I spent the first few minutes just mashing buttons and trying to figure things out. The characters are pretty wild, and the special moves are over-the-top, which is what makes the game so fun.
Getting My Butt Kicked (At First)
Let’s just say my first few matches weren’t pretty. I got destroyed by the AI. I forgot how aggressive the computer players can be! They were spiking, blocking, and diving all over the place. I was mostly just running around like a headless chicken.
But, slowly, it started coming back to me. I remembered the timing for the power shots, and I started to use the “fight” button more strategically (yes, you can actually punch and kick your opponents in this game!).
Finally, Some Victory!
After a few more matches, I finally managed to win one! It wasn’t pretty, and it was definitely close, but I did it. It felt good to get back into the groove. I even unlocked a new character, which was a nice bonus.

- Find PS2 and cables: Check!
- Find Game Disc: Check!
- Win(finally):Check!
- Remember how to play: Slowly getting there!
- Have fun: Definitely!
I played for another hour or so, just messing around with different characters and courts. It’s a silly, arcade-style game, but it’s still a blast to play. A good reminder that you sometimes some good old games.
